Tissue Salts 101: Calc Fluor, Calc Phos, Calc Sulph

Updated: Sep 23, 2023

Today we’re looking at the first three, of twelve, tissue salts: Calc Fluor, Calc Phos, Calc Sulph. If you need a quick refresher on Tissue Salts you can find that here.

The salts we will look at today are: Calc Fluor, Calc Phos, Calc Sulph. While it's safe to assume these Calcium based tissue salts support bone health, these grand salts each carry their own importance in balancing health and wellness.

Before you dive in...

Just like Homeopathy, Tissue Salts are chosen based on the symptoms they can treat. Generally, they focus on particular organ systems, but also affect the mind (and everything else, since everything is connected!), so I've broken down each salt as follows:

Main focus: the organ systems/tissues it benefits

Action: what the tissue salt does in the body

Mental/Emotional State: common mental states that may be a sign you need it

Called for: the conditions for which the salt is called for

1. Calcium Fluoride

This tissue salt is excellent for toning up those tissues that have fallen lax, or softening those that are too hard.

Mentally, I think to a patient who works hard and puts a lot of pressure on themselves, they take great care in being responsible, avoiding financial collapse, they buy insurance. When unwell, they may be prone to depression, negativity, and indecisiveness – as if their mind has gone lax.

Physically, Calc Fluor is excellent for toning elastic tissue (in joints, ankles, knees, haemorrhoids), strengthening bones and enamel (teeth, fractures, disc degeneration), softening skin (chapped, cracked, bunions, eczema) and assimilating nutrients (starches and fats).

Main focus: Bones, ligaments, teeth, elastic tissues

Action: Responsible for elasticity and flexibility, for toning tissues that have lost their elasticity – even toning the mind when it has fallen lax.

Mental/Emotional: They work hard, are very organized and responsible. Prone to depression, extreme negativity and indecisiveness, lack of concentration, instability.

Called for:

  • Teeth: strengthens tooth enamel, great for teeth the grow in rotten/loose in sockets, delayed dentition in children, children with lots of cavities.

  • Bones/Joints: bony growths, arthritic nosodities, gout, trick knees, carpal tunnel syndrome, slipped/herniated/degenerated discs

  • Elastic Tissue: Hemorrhoids, varicose veins

  • Weight loss: aids the assimilation of starches and fats when taken before a meal.

2. Calcium Phosphate

For the young and for the old. Calc Phos is all about growth and development and is best taken in the stages of life where change is prominent – growing pains, failure to thrive, teething pain, osteoporosis, bone injuries, S.I. pain, hip replacements, rheumatism.

When you are feeling low – in spirit and in energy. This salt is all about stress, feeling overwhelmed, the perfectionist who is frustrated and can’t focus. Much like the bones, the emotions are brittle and react easily to stress. Adults moan and groan, teens complain, kids are hard to please.

Main Focus: Bones, teeth, nutrition, structural stress, growth or weakness

Action: Responsible for cell building, in bones especially, assimilating nutrients (especially calcium)

Mental/Emotional: Discontent and dissatisfied, they moan and groan, complain and whine. Easily vexed and perfectionistic. May feel overwhelmed and weak with a lack of motivation.

Called for:

  • Calcium Regulation: take with your calcium supplement. For pregnant/breastfeeding women to avoid the leeching of mothers’ calcium.

  • Bones: sacro-iliac issues, hip issues (take regularly before and after hip replacement), bone injuries & fractures, bone curvatures, rheumatism with numbness in bones.

  • Teeth: for inflamed gums, teething pains (Make a paste and rub on gums), take with Calc Fluor for tooth decay.

  • Growth and development: slow growing children, failure to thrive, for mothers to improve breast milk, slow closing fontanels, growing pains, kids with poor appetite, bedwetting and nightmares in children.

  • Smoking: to help reduce the cravings for cigarettes.

  • Digestion: to increase appetite in kids, to aid IBS, bloating and flatulence, commonly craves bacon and smoked meats.

  • Birth Control side effects: after coming off, take to restore normal menses.

  • Eyes: to slow the progress of cataracts

3. Calcarea Sulphurica

The theme of Calc Sulph is a backlogged liver; which produces ulcers, boils, varicose veins, skin eruptions, and yellow suppurations.

The “yellow” cell salt – focuses on cleansing the blood and stopping suppuration (pus). The patient who needs this is fatigued, lazy, bogged down, slow healing, and acidic. Great for skin conditions where there is yellow thick discharges, or to prevent the infection of any eruption. Eye infections have yellow discharge, ears may be blocked with dark wax, recurrent sore throat with yellow sputum.

Main Focus: Blood, Skin, Liver, Kidneys

Action: Responsible for reducing the production of pus and properly cleansing blood.

Mental/Emotional: Fatigued, lazy, worries about imaginary problems.

Called for:

  • Skin: The first remedy to take for any kind of eruption prevent infection. In particular: any yellow discharges, pus, abscesses, boils, slow healing ulcers, wounds that won’t heal/leave a scar, recurrent acne, cradle cap in kids, dry eczema, fungal infections (tinea, vaginitis).

  • Respiratory: For recurrent sore throat/bronchitis, blocked nose/sinuses. Great for preventing sore throat/cold when combined with Ferrum Phos.

  • Digestion: For salt/sour/savoury cravings, stomach ulcers and burning indigestion. Anal fistula that are slow to heal.

  • Varicose veins: with cold feet that throb, may have ulceration.

Tissue Salts are great for maintaining good health, healing acute infections and colds, palliating chronic conditions. I use them most often when health only need a little boost, to compliment a patients good diet and active lifestyle - or when we are in the mode of palliation. For example a patient waiting for a hip replacement looking to take less Advil, but still manage pain - Calc Phos!
